In episode 20 I’m happy to bring you more great interviews with members of RStudio from rstudio::conf! I had the pleasure of chatting with software engineer Javier Luraschi to discuss Apache Spark and the new sparklyr package that allows R users to connect directly to a Spark cluster for high-performance data analyses. In addition you will hear from RStudio’s master instructor Garret Grolemund to get his recommendations for teaching R and the highly-acclaimed R for Data Science book. All of this plus a package pick that could enable me to use R in my podcast workflow in episode 20 of the R-Podcast!

Javier Luraschi

Javier is a software engineer at RStudio with experience in technologies ranging from desktop, web, mobile and backend; to augmented reality and deep learning applications. He previously worked for Microsoft Research and SAP and holds a double degree in Mathematics and Software. He is author and maintainer of the sparklyr R package which provides an interface to the powerful Apache Spark platform."

Garrett Grolemund

Garrett is a data scientist and master instructor at RStudio. Garrett excels at teaching, statistics, and teaching statistics. He wrote the popular lubridate package and is the author of Hands On Programming with R and co-author of R for Data Science, from O’Reilly Media. He holds a PhD in Statistics and specializes in Data Visualization.

Eric Nantz

Eric Nantz is a principal research scientist at a large life sciences company, creating innovative analytical pipelines and capabilities supporting study designs and analyses. Outside of his day job, Eric is passionate about connecting with the R community as the creator/host of the R-Podcast, Shiny Developer Series, and a curator / podcast host for the R Weekly project.
